Are You Providing BOPIS and BOPAC?

Retail has undergone some major changes in recent years. While 2020 brought about some seismic shifts and accelerated a lot of the consumer trends and technological advancements within retail, these trends were already in full swing pre-2020. Below we will briefly discuss BOPIS and BOPAC and why you need to implement these within your retail store ASAP!

What is BOPIS and BOPAC?

Buy Online, Pick-up In Store (BOPIS) and Buy Online, Pick-up at Curbside (BOPAC) have become a lifeline for retailers. How many retailers are just now becoming aware of both of these options, this was growing rapidly pre-2020. In fact, revenue from BOPIS sales was already up an average of 35% during the 2019 holiday season. Data like this show that BOPIS sales were a sizable element of businesses that had already implemented it, and it’s not going to go away as people start going back to old routines. The reason for that is because BOPIS and BOPAC were already a part of those routines.

These BOPIS and BOPAC options are super powerful for small businesses. In fact, 50% of respondents of a recent survey have stated that they decide where to shop online based on whether or not they could pick up in-store. For many of our small business clients, this has been a way to differentiate between big businesses that had yet to implement these services. In 2021, BOPIS and BOPAC are now table-stakes in the world of retail.

Isn’t This Complicated and Expensive to Set Up

Certainly not! In fact, in-store pickup comes along as a part of our e-commerce sites. BOPAC does take a bit more configuration due to the communication with the as they pull up curbside, but these are affordable and standardized solutions for retail and restaurants. Where things will get pricey is if internal systems or processes are not in place to handle these services. A common hold up for many businesses is an inflexible Point-of-Sale (POS) system they have. For them, implementing BOPIS or BOPAC could mean a migration away from heir existing POS. It would be safe to say that if a POS is holding a business back from implementing BOPIS or BOPAC, it’s likely outdated and in need of being replaced regardless.
